Redirections

At present Royal Mail is the only operator offering a redirection service.  All mail handled by Royal Mail is subject to redirection regardless of whether or not that mail is within the licensed area.  As competitors offering a delivery service gain an increased share of a liberalised postal market, there is a risk that the redirections service will suffer unless other licensed operators, who wish to provide a redirections service, have access to the redirections data.

Postcomm is proposing that Royal Mail share redirection data with other licensed operators, and in a manner that is consistent with the Data Protection Act 1998, to enable other licensed delivery operators to redirect mail.

Postcomm's consultation on its revised proposals for sharing redirections data closed on 23 January 2008. Postcomm is currently assessing the responses to consultation and will meet with interested parties as required.
