Postcomm grants two new interim licences

25 July 2002

Following consultation, Postcomm today issued short-term licences to Speedmail International Ltd and Express Dairies.

Speedmail’s licence will enable it to pilot mailroom services for businesses, collecting mail from Consignia, pre-sorting it and delivering it direct to individuals at clients’ premises. It will also deliver letters connected with publications to the London postcodes in which it already delivers non-licensed material.

Express will trial the delivery of packets and letters from business to householders using the company’s milk delivery network.

Notes for Editors

The delivery of publications is exempt from licensing. However a licence is needed if a letter – such as an invoice or subscription renewal – is included. Up to now these have had to be sent by Royal Mail.
