Postcomm consults on code of practice

11 December 2001

Postcomm, the postal services regulator, today published a consultation paper setting out its proposals for a code of practice which will determine how the organisation carries out its responsibilities under the Postal Services Act 2000.

The proposed code deals with:

  • Postcomm’s functions
  • its statutory duties and other obligations, and
  • general principles to be applied by Postcomm in the discharge of its functions.

The document sets down eight principles which Postcomm intends to follow including the principles of independence, openness and acting in accordance with good regulatory practice.

Notes for editors

The consultation paper, A code of practice governing the discharge of Postcomm’s functions, is available from Postcomm at 6 Hercules Road, London SE1 7DB.

Postcomm would welcome comments before 28 February 2002.  Subject to the responses, the code of practice, which is required under section 50 of the Postal Services Act 2000, will be implemented in March 2002.
