Postal Services Act 2000
The Postal Services Act 2000 is the key piece of legislation affecting Postcomm's work. It gives effect to the 1997 Postal Services Directive, and sets out:
- duties and functions of Postcomm, including its duty in relation to ensuring the provision of a universal postal service;
- functions and duties of Postwatch;
- licensing of postal service providers;
- Post Office matters, including financial provisions for Post Offices;
- offences relating to postal services.
Since its introduction in 2000, the Postal Services Act (external website) has been amended by:
- the Postal Services Act 2000 (Disclosure of information) Order 2001, SI 2001 No 3617 (external website);
- the Enterprise Act 2002 Section 278(1) and Schedule 25 paragraph 42 (external website);
- the Postal Services Act (Modification of Section 7) Order 2002, SI 2002 No 200 (external website), and
- the Postal Services (EC Directive) Regulations 2002, SI 2002 No 3050 (external website).
