Professor Stephen Littlechild B Com, Ph D, D Sc (Hon), D Civ Law (Hon).
Stephen Littlechild was the first UK director general of electricity supply and head of the Office of Electricity Regulation (OFFER) from 1989-98. Previously he was professor of applied economics at the University of Aston (1973-75), then professor of commerce and head of the Department of Industrial Economics and Business Studies at the University of Birmingham (1975-89). He was a member of the Monopolies and Mergers Commission (1983-89).
He is now an emeritus professor at the University of Birmingham and senior research associate at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge.
Professor Littlechild is an international consultant on regulation, competition and privatisation, especially in the electricity and telecommunications sectors. Since 1999 he has been a policy advisor to governments, the World Bank, regulators and companies in many countries as well as the UK. He is presently on the Airport Price Control Advisory Group of the Civil Aviation Authority. He is also a member of Ofgem’s panel of economic advisors.
Professor Littlechild has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Birmingham (1964) and a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin (1969). He was awarded honorary doctorate degrees by the Universities of Birmingham and East Anglia.
