Simon Prior-Palmer, commissioner
Simon spent 32 years until 2005 in a variety of investment banking front office and management roles that encompassed a wide spectrum of financial disciplines.
In July 2005 he retired from Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB), now Credit Suisse, after a 23 year employment as director, managing director and later senior advisor. From 1988 to 1998 Simon was head of UK investment banking. In 1998 CSFB acquired BZW, then the UK’s largest merchant bank, and Simon worked to make this merger one of the most successful of its type.
From 1973 to 1982 he worked at JP Morgan in London and New York. He was a founder member of Morgan Guaranty Limited in 1978, the original JP Morgan Investment Bank.
Since retirement from full time investment banking, he has developed a portfolio of activities:
- In 2001 he was appointed a board trustee of Macmillan Cancer Support and is chairman of the audit committee and a member of the finance and legal committee.
- In October 2006, Simon was appointed a director of Gabriel Resources Limited, a Canadian natural resources company
- In June 2007, he was appointed a director of Burani Designer Holding N.V., an Italian luxury goods company.
Simon graduated from Oxford University in 1973 with an MA in politics, philosophy and economics. He was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) in 1989 and joined the council of the RSA in 2006.
